Can I Write and Submit Show Reviews?

review

GimmeMT.com seeks to provide a show review for all shows with available recordings. This will take some time, bit over 300 reviews have now been written and posted.

Registered visitors can post their own reviews, opinions, thoughts, responses, etc. with regard to any show, even if the GimmeMT review has not yet been posted for that show.

If you want to write "official GimmeMT.com" reviews, you are welcome to apply. We are attempting to provide a consistent voice or set of voices for "site" reviews, so you should prepare a meaningful number of reviews (say a dozen) to obtain your own reviewer identity.

Of course, you can already post a review to any SHOWS you like without being an official reviewer.

Once accepted, a reviewer would be added to the roster of official GimmeMT.com reviewers and be encouraged to write as many more reviews as they can.

If you are interested in being official:

  • Write at least a dozen show reviews and submit them privately to the Admin

  • Pick shows that have not already been reviewed (and preferably not in an active series currently being added to)

  • Familiarize yourself with the existing style and format, but feel free to develop your own personalized and consistent approach

  • Keep in mind that the focus is on reviewing the music on the recordings, not on their sound quality or your personal memories of attending a show (we are open in the future to adding separate sound quality reviews)

  • Listen freshly to the shows you are reviewing before writing (don't just rely on your memories)

Thanks!

The Rules

GimmeMT.com is "all MT all the time." Mick Taylor-related content is always on-message for us. Let it Rock!

We want a robust discussion and debate and will always attempt to err on the side of freedom to post.

However, after 30 years of internet history, we all would prefer to aspire to the better part of our nature.

Although we make no commitment to reviewing and considering any post, let alone all of them, posts that:

  • Get too far from discussing the music
  • Assert statements contrary to generally-accepted historical fact
  • Contain things a normal person would not say to the subject if face to face
  • Unduly invade privacy or create a potential safety risk for anyone

will be removed in the sole discretion of the guy who does the work and pays the bills (the Admin).

It's simple, our hero musicians are real people, just like us. I would like this forum to represent me at the same level that I am represented in the real world by my own actions.

Sorting by Date

GimmeMT.com provides multiple ways to sort posts. All initial show posts are dated as if made on the date of the show described.

Lists of posts can thus be sorted into date order by selecting "Oldest" in the selector box, or "Newest" to present in reverse chronological order.

Categories/Tags

Although it is possible to think of GimmeMT.com a being organized as a traditional internet discussion forum, with vertical dives into topics, it also highlights and preferences the use of Categories/Tags.

These allow individual postings to be cross-referenced by other than date ranges, in unlimited ways.

For example, Mick Taylor played with Rolling Stones as a member from 1969-197469-74 Rolling Stones, a guest in 1981 and as a Special Guest in 2012-2014. One tag we created -- the stones tag -- brings all those threads together from different eras with one click.

System Time

The GimmeMT.com forum system is set to UTC, but with automatic adjustment to show the equivalent local time on your browser.

More on Tags

The Tag concept allows GimmeMT to provide both breadth and depth about Mick Taylor's career.

Breadth by covering across all fifty years of his live playing as a professional musician since 1967.

Depth by simultaneously going deep into each performance -- show-by-show -- for simple deposit and retrieval of all available information and opinion about each show.

Collectors think in terms of dates.

Most other fans don't think about dates at all! Often they don't even recall the year of a favorite show correctly.

Whether you want to think in terms of a particular band Mick Taylor was part of or led, or an era, tags allow cross-category discovery as well as deep-drilling. The Flarum message board software is relatively new (still in version 1x), and was chosen for its flexible and novel implementation of tags as its primary organizing principle.

Clicking on Tags

Tags allow easy retrieval across bands and eras, based on their organizing principal, as well as comprehensively displaying particular time-based groupings.
